Sara Pisak of Sugarloaf, Pa., Awarded Wilkes University Norris Church Mailer Scholarship

Wilkes-Barre, PA (08/05/2019) — Wilkes University awarded the Norris Church Mailer Scholarship to creative writing student Sara Pisak of Sugarloaf, Pa. Pisak completed her master of arts in creative writing and is pursuing her master of fine arts in the Maslow Family Graduate Program in Creative Writing. The scholarship was awarded on June 21 during the closing banquet of the creative writing program's June residency.

The Norris Church Mailer Scholarship is awarded to a student with demonstrated talent, need and a commitment to serving the writing community. The scholarship was created by Norman Mailer, the late Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist and first advisory board member of the Wilkes creative writing program. It is given in honor of his wife and Wilkes advisory board member, Norris Church Mailer. Awarded annually, faculty members nominate students who are already in the program.

About the Maslow Family Graduate Program in Creative Writing

Wilkes University's Maslow Family Graduate Program in Creative Writing offers the master of arts and master of fine art degrees in fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, screenwriting, playwriting, publishing and documentary film. Program faculty are working, producing writers who mentor students one-on-one through the process of creating a full-length creative project. The Graduate Creative Writing program is offered in two formats. In the low-residency format, students learn online and attend two eight-day residencies each January and June.
