Emily Harchar of Dallas, Pa., Participates in Veteran's Oral History Project

2013 Dec 3

Wilkes University freshman student Emily Harchar of Dallas, Pa., completed an oral history project as part of a first-year foundations course called "Be the Change." A first-year foundations course is a course required by all Wilkes freshmen. "Be the Change" focused on a service learning project that gathered the oral histories of northeast Pennsylvania veterans. During the semester, students met one-on-one with the veterans whose service ranged from World War II to Operation Iraqi Freedom and also hosted a Veteran's Brunch on Nov. 7 for the retired service members and their spouses. Each veteran received a copy of his or her oral history as a keepsake at the end of the semester. The foundations course was originated and taught by Marcia Balester, coordinator of Wilkes' provost office.

Harchar is a nursing major.
