Morgan Palermo, of Drums, Pa., Visits Supreme Court with Wilkes University Professors

2012 May 8

Morgan Palermo, of Drums, Pa., visited the United States Supreme Court with a group of students from Wilkes University on April 16-17. Palermo is a junior at Wilkes and is majoring in English and pre-law. The trip gave students a firsthand look at the Supreme Court and its operations, as well as the honor of speaking with Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

After observing oral arguments in a current court case, the students were given a tour of the Supreme Court, shedding light on the history of the building and many of the former justices. After the tour, they had the rare opportunity to sit down and meet with Justice Ginsburg in her private chambers. The students spoke with Justice Ginsburg about the case they observed earlier that day, as well as her experiences as a Justice. The students described the event as, "a once in a lifetime experience."

The trip was chaperoned by Kyle Kreider, associate professor of political science at Wilkes, and Thomas Baldino, professor of political science at Wilkes. It was sponsored by the Wilkes University Mentoring Task Force, which strives to create a system of mentoring opportunities for students, staff and faculty at all educational and organizational levels of the university.
