Patrick Kaczmarczyk of Pittston Area High School Competes at Wilkes University Engineering Olympics

Patrick Kaczmarczyk and nine other juniors from Pittston Area High School competed at Wilkes University's 2011 Engineering Olympics. The team was lead by teacher Thomas Joyce.

Kaczmarczyk is from Duryea, Pa. He is the son of Deborah Parry.

The Wilkes Engineering Olympics were held on April 8. Ten high schools competed in five engineering events, including skyscraper building, electrical circuit, self-propelled vehicle, launcher design, and the MacGyver competition.

Each team member on the first-place team won a $1,000/year scholarship to Wilkes University -- a total of $4,000 each over four years.

First place in the overall competition went to the team from Crestwood Area High School. E.L. Meyers High School placed second and the team from La Salle College High School placed third.
