Terra Landis of Monroeton, Pa. (18832) Finalist in Pharmacy Patient Counseling Competition

Terra Landis of Monroeton, Pa., of the Nesbitt School of Pharmacy at Wilkes University was a finalist in the Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association's (PPA) 2017 "Know Pain Know Gain" Pharmacy Patient Counseling Competition, which took place during PPA's mid-year conference on Jan. 28 in Lancaster, Pa. Founded in 1878, the Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association is a professional membership organization of more than 2,300 pharmacists and pharmacy students across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Ten students began the competition with a Q&A session on pain management. The three finalists then competed in a patient counseling scenario. Each finalist received the same scenario and was given a specific amount of time to prepare. Finalists left the room and entered one by one to provide their counseling advice to a mock "patient." After all finalists provided their counseling, a panel of three judges announced Colleen D'Amico as the winner. A demonstration illustrating the best practice concepts for providing patient counseling was then done for all contestants and the audience.
