Wilkes University 2017 Pharmacy Graduate Kristen Lopatofsky of Waymart, Pa. (18472) Residency Match

2017 May 9

Kristen Lopatofsky of Waymart, Pa., received a residency placement after receiving the doctor of pharmacy degree in May 2017. Lopatofsky was placed with the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. Wilkes continued to match pharmacy students seeking residency training at a rate above the national average. Nationally, there were 3,497 residency positions offered and 5,160 applicants. Sixty-eight percent of those who applied for residencies were matched with a program.

Post-graduate training in the pharmacy field includes residencies, fellowships and doctorate programs. Although not required for practice, the training allows pharmacists to work in advanced positions within the profession. Residencies may be a one- or two-year commitment, and fellowships follow a two-year specialized track. The select number of graduates awarded a post-graduate position adds to the honor and value of this opportunity.
