Wilkes University Student Angela Quarno of Morris Plains, N.J., Participates in Flood Stories Project

Wilkes University student Angela Quarno of Morris Plains, N.J., participated in a flood stories project as part of a first-year foundations course called "The Power of Story." A first-year foundations course is a course required by all Wilkes freshmen. Students enrolled in the class collected oral histories of individuals who survived the September 2011 flooding in the Wyoming Valley. The stories focused on the community of West Pittston and chronicled the hardships endured and the recovery process experienced by individuals and institutions such as churches and the West Pittston Library. The project culminated in a presentation of excerpts from the oral histories at the library in November 2013.

Quarno is a nursing major.
