Wilkes University Student Kristina Spaulding of Massapequa Park, N.Y., Meets Sir Salman Rushdie

Kristina Spaulding of Massapequa Park, N.Y., and 11 other Wilkes University students from assistant English professor Marcia Farrell's class, English 397/497 E: Salman Rushdie and his Contemporaries, met with internationally acclaimed author Sir Salman Rushdie for dinner and discussion prior to his lecture at Wilkes on April 19.

Rushdie is the author of ten novels including The Satanic Verses and Booker Prize winner, Midnight's Children. His stage adaptation of Midnight's Children was performed in London and New York by the Royal Shakespeare Company. Rushdie is also the author of a book of stories, East, West, and three works of non-fiction. He is the co-editor of Mirrorwork, an anthology of contemporary Indian writing, and of the 2008 Best American Short Stories anthology. He has won numerous awards for his writing, holds honorary doctorates and fellowships from a dozen European and American colleges, and was given the rank of Commander in the Order of Arts and Letters, France's highest artistic honor, as well as receiving a Knighthood in the Queen's Birthday Honours in Britain.
