Wilkes University Student Pharmacist Aaron Knopp Participates in Summer Research

Aaron Knopp of Muncy, Pa., is one of three Wilkes University student pharmacists participating in a summer research project with Ajay Bommareddy, associate professor of pharmaceutical sciences in the Nesbitt School of Pharmacy. Students are investigating the anticancer properties of alpha-santalol, a component of sandalwood oil. In identifying the mechanics associated with cancer cell death caused by alpha-santalol using cellular models, students will confirm their findings using animal models from mice. Using animal models can help to assess the safety and toxicity of a compound prior to its use in humans for prevention and treatment of prostate and breast cancer.
