Julianna Evans of Jim Thorpe, Pa., Awarded Wilkes University's Jennifer Diskin Scholarship

Wilkes-Barre, PA (08/15/2019) — Julianna Evans of Jim Thorpe, Pa., was awarded The Jennifer Diskin scholarship on June 21, 2019. The Jennifer Diskin scholarship is awarded to a student with demonstrated need and talent and a commitment to studying poetry. It is given in honor of alumna Jennifer Diskin who passed away after a brave struggle with cancer. Started by her family, poetry faculty members nominate students who are already in the program.

Evans is pursuing her master of arts in creative writing with a concentration in poetry at Wilkes University's Maslow Family Graduate Program in Creative Writing. Evans is working with Wilkes creative writing faculty member Rashidah Ismaili Abubakr on her creative thesis.

About the Wilkes University Maslow Family Graduate Program in Creative Writing

Wilkes University's Maslow Family Graduate Program in Creative Writing offers the master of arts and master of fine art degrees in fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, screenwriting, playwriting, publishing and documentary film. Program faculty are working, producing writers who mentor students one-on-one through the process of creating a full-length creative project. The Graduate Creative Writing program is offered in two formats. In the low-residency format, students learn online and attend two eight-day residencies each January and June. For the weekender program, students will learn online and attend four face-to-face weekend class sessions each term.
