Maslow Foundation Salon Reading Series at Wilkes University Highlights Maslow Family Creative Writing Program from June 17-21

Wilkes University's Maslow Foundation Salon Reading Series, which highlights the June 2018 residency for the University's Maslow Family Graduate Program in Creative Writing, features debut authors, program faculty and alumni s as guest readers. Readings are from June 17-21.

The series include a special event featuring alumi and faculty reading from the new anthology, My Body, My Words: a collection of bodies. Authors include Amye Archer, Loren Kleinman, Beverly Donofrio, Leah Vernon, Dawn Leas, Brian Fanelli and Kaylie Jones.

My Body, My Words: a collection of bodies, focuses on the war on body image that is fought behind closed doors-- in dressing rooms, closets, bathrooms, and in the darkest corners of society. The anthology examines the media and pop-culture's idea of what it means to be beautiful.

The readings are held nightly from 7 to 9 p.m. each night. The Sunday reading will take place at 7 p.m. at the downtown Barnes & Noble Bookstore at Public Square, 7 S. Main St., Wilkes-Barre and the subsequent readings will take place at the Dorothy Dickson Darte Center at Wilkes University. A book fair, sponsored by Barnes & Noble, features books for purchase by the authors. All readings are free and open to the public.

SUNDAY, June 17 - 7 to 9 p.m. Bookfair begins.

Opening night will feature a poetry, creative nonfiction and fiction sampler with the works of Bill Schneider, Christine Gelineau, Robert Mooney, Rachael Hughes, Taylor Polites, Laurie Lowenstein, Nisha Sharma and Laurie Jean Cannady.

The following readings are at Dorothy Dickson Darte Center, Wilkes University campus. The bookfair continues throughout the week.

MONDAY, June 18 - Private film screening, not open to the public.

TUESDAY, June 19- 7 to 9 p.m.

The night will feature fiction, poetry and creative nonfiction highlighing the work of Rashidah Ismaili Abubkr, David Poyer, Lenore Hart, Kevin Oderman, J. Michael Lennon, Jeff Talarigo, Nancy McKinley and Phil Brady.

WEDNESDAY, June 20 - 7 to 9 p.m.

Playwrights night will feature a reading of playwriting faculty member Gregory Fletcher. Taken from his revised textbook on how to write a ten-minute play, Shorts and Briefs.

THURSDAY, June 21 - 7 to 9 p.m.

The final night will feature alums and faculty reading from the new anthology, My Body, My Words: a collection of bodies. Authors include Amye Archer, Loren Kleinman, Beverly Donofrio, Leah Vernon, Dawn Leas, Brian Fanelli and Kaylie Jones.

About Wilkes University Maslow Family Graduate Creative Writing Program:

The Wilkes University graduate creative writing program is an accredited, nationally recognized low-residency program offering both an M.A. and an M.F.A. in creative writing with five areas of concentration: fiction, creative non-fiction, poetry, screenwriting and playwriting.
