SHINE of Luzerne County at Wilkes University Holds Lights On After School Event on Nov. 8

Wilkes-Barre, PA (11/06/2018) — SHINE of Luzerne County at Wilkes University is celebrating National Lights on After School and National STEM week with their Lights On After School event at 4 p.m. on Nov. 8 at the Wilkes-Barre Area Career and Technical Center, 350 Jumper Road, Wilkes-Barre.

The event's theme is electricity and students will participate in electricity themed activities to celebrate the importance of afterschool programing and a curriculum that emphasizes STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math). Speakers at the event include staff representing Conrad Favello on behalf of Congressman Lou Barletta and state Sen. John Yudichak's, Anne Skleder, senior vice president and provost at Wilkes University, and SHINE students will speak at the event. Speakers will talk about the work it takes to keep the lights on and the doors open for afterschool programs.

SHINE of Lurzerne County at Wilkes University serves students in six centers. SHINE, which stands for Schools and Homes In Education, is offered four days a week and uses a project-based STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) curriculum to kindle excitement about learning. School districts served by the program are Hanover Area, Hazleton Area, Greater Nanticoke Area, Wilkes-Barre Area and Wyoming Valley West.
