U.N. Electoral Advisor Speaks About Ensuring Election Integrity on Nov. 8 at Wilkes University

Wilkes-Barre, PA (10/17/2018) — Niall McCann, the lead electoral advisor for the United Nations Development Programme, will discuss electoral integrity on Nov. 8 at 4 p.m. The event will be in room 214 of the Arnaud C. Marts Center, 274 S. Franklin St., Wilkes-Barre. The lecture is free and open to the public.

In 2005, McCann helped ensure the election process ran smoothly in Afghanistan, Kenya, Lebanon, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Yemen ad Zambia. He has assisted the U.N. Development Programme by providing electoral assistance.

He also observed elections for the European Union and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe in Sudan and Croatia as well as Belarus, Croatia, Hungary, Romania and Ukraine. From 1996-1999, he was the elections officer and senior elections officer in Bosnia and Herzegovina with the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.

The United Nations Lecture Series is a collaboration between Wilkes University and the Humpty Dumpty Institute's Higher Education Alliance for the United Nations. The program brings U.N. officials to campus throughout the year for lectures and informal meetings with students.
