Wilkes University Celebrates the Gateway to the Future at Homecoming 2018 Oct. 5 to 7
Wilkes-Barre, PA (09/19/2018) — Wilkes University welcomes alumni back to campus for Homecoming Weekend 2018. The event, held Oct. 5 to 7, celebrates old friends, new memories and exciting campus improvements.
Festivities will begin with the Gateway to the Future capital campaign kickoff on Friday, Oct. 5 at 4 p.m at the McHale Athletic Center, 169 S. Main St. Attendees will learn about the benefits to both students and the campus with the fundraising campaign launch. Later that night, the class of 1968 will celebrate their 50th reunion with other Golden Colonels at a cocktail party in the Sordoni Art Gallery lobby.
On Saturday, Oct. 6, Schmidt Stadium will be packed with blue and gold as the Colonels take on Albright College at 1 p.m. Earlier that day, alumni will have breakfast with Wilkes President Patrick F. Leahy as he shares his vision for the university. The event begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6 in the Henry Student Center Ballroom, 84 W. South St.
Other homecoming highlights include:
Friday, Oct. 5
- Pints with Professors - 5 to 8 p.m. at the Karambelas East Campus Gateway. Attendees will share memories and drinks with faculty and friends. Alumni of the communications studies, business/Sidhu School, education, earth and environmental science, political science and psychology program will hold their reunions at the event.
Saturday, Oct. 6
- Tailgate Tent - 11 a.m. through the end of halftime at the Ralston Athletic Complex. Tickets include food and beverages. Many reunion groups will gather there including classes ending in 3s and 8s, the A-List, Tennis and Catlin Hall. Once again, student clubs will sponsor the Colonel's corner where a variety of activities are available for children up to 12 years of age.
- Golden Colonels Dinner honoring the class of 1968 - 6 p.m. in Weckesser Hall. The event is complementary to the class of '68 and $50 for guests. The class of '68 will be inducted as Golden Colonels on the occasion of their 50th anniversary of graduation.
- "Twist & Stout" downtown bar tour - 7 p.m. departure from McHale Athletic Center. The $20 price includes drinks and appetizers on campus, and then participants sample different bars on South Main Street.
