Wilkes University Choral Ensembles Presents Journeys, April 26

Wilkes-Barre, PA (04/22/2019) — The Wilkes University Chorus and Chamber Singers will present the program entitled Journeys on April 26 at 3 p.m. The concert will be held at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, Wilkes-Barre. The Wilkes University Choral Ensembles are directed by Steven Thomas, director of choral activities and chair of the division of performing arts. The concert is free and open to the public.

The program includes works related to travel: departures, separation, destinations, modes of travel and even the road itself. Selections include Randall Thompson's "The Road Not Taken," Stephen Chatman's "Train", Eleanor Daley's "The Bridge Builder," an arrangement of "Route Sixty-Six" by Dick Averre and William Henry Smith's "Ride the Chariot." Featured soloists on the program are Stevie Burton, Kayleigh Evans, Caitlin Klinger, and Olivia Williams.

The University Chorus is the University's largest choral ensemble and is open to any member of the Wilkes community, by audition. The Chamber Singers is the University's select vocal ensemble, and is open to any student member of the Wilkes University Chorus, by audition. The Chamber Singers typically perform a wide range of a cappella repertoire, from Renaissance to contemporary music.
