Wilkes University Civic Band Presents "My Best Friends in Music" in Concert on April 28

Wilkes-Barre, PA (04/09/2019) — The Wilkes University Civic Band will present the concert "My Best Friends In Music" on April 28 at 3 p.m. in the Dorothy Dickson Darte Center for the Performing Arts. The concert is conducted by Philip G. Simon, associate professor of music. Admission is free and the concert is open to the public. This concert will be Simon's last as director of bands at Wilkes University.

Guest artists will include Lucinda Simon, conducting the Lark In the Clear Air and noted Philadelphia musicians, Rebecca Simon Brown, flute and Samuel Lorber, alto saxophone, who will play the Russell Peterson Concerto for Alto Saxophone, Flute and Band. Martina Barna, soprano, a recent Wilkes graduate, will sing the soprano solo in Angels in the Architecture by Frank Ticheli. Other music on the program will include The English Folk Song Suite by Ralph Vaughn Williams, Pastime by Jack Stamp and Barnum and Bailey's Favorite by Karl L. King.

The Wilkes University Civic Band, comprises Wilkes University student musicians and local adult and student musicians from the community.
