Wilkes University Dedicates Bruggeworth Field at Ralston Athletic Complex

The new multi-purpose field will be dedicated at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5

Wilkes-Barre, PA (10/03/2019) — Wilkes University will dedicate Bruggeworth Field at Ralston Athletic Complex at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5. The event will take place at Bruggeworth Field, 302 Northampton Street in Edwardsville. Wilkes Interim President Paul S. Adams will be joined by Robert Bruggeworth, class of 1983, for brief remarks. The dedication is being held in conjunction with Homecoming weekend.

The nearly $8 million project includes a multi-purpose turf field that will be used for men's and women's soccer, men's and women's lacrosse and women's field hockey. It also includes a new turf baseball field, a scoreboard, two press boxes and stadium lights for evening competition.

The project was made possible by a leadership gift from Bruggeworth, who majored in electrical engineering at Wilkes. He is currently the president and chief executive officer of Qorvo, a global communications chip maker headquartered in Greensboro, N.C. During his time at Wilkes, he played on the men's soccer team as goalkeeper. He was awarded an honorary doctorate of business during the University's spring commencement on May 18. He is establishing Bruggeworth Field in honor of his mother.

The project also includes a bronze victory bell. In a new Wilkes tradition, a student-athlete will be chosen to ring the bell after every Wilkes victory at Bruggeworth Field. The bell is meaningful to Bruggeworth, whose mother would ring a bell to gather the family for dinner.
