Wilkes University Electrical Engineering Professor Wei Du Authors Book Chapter

Wilkes-Barre, PA (02/19/2020) — Wei Du, assistant professor of electrical engineering at Wilkes University, has contributed a chapter to the book "Mid-Infrared Optoelectronics: Materials, Devices and Applications." The book was published in November 2019 by Elsevier Science and Technology.

Du's chapter is "Group IV photonics using (Si) GeSn technology toward mid-IR applications." It was co-authored with Shui-Qing Yu of the department of electrical engineering at the University of Arkansas. The chapter explores how silicon (Si) technique has impacted the development of photonic devices, which are components for creating, manipulating and detecting light. This can include lasers, light-emitting diodes, solar and photovoltaic cells, photodetectors, displays and optical amplifiers.

The book in which the chapter appears was edited by Eric Tournie and Laurent Cerrutti. It is a key reference for materials scientists, engineers and professionals working in research and development in the areas of semiconductors and optoelectronics.
