Wilkes University Political Science Honor Society Hosts Lecture, "The Legal and Political Checks on the President," March 26

Wilkes-Barre, PA (03/06/2019) — Impeachment and control will be the topic of discussion when Wilkes University's chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha, Sigma Pi, hosts a lecture on March 26. The lecture entitled, "The Legal and Political Checks on the President," will feature Scott Meinke professor and chair of political science at Bucknell University and Michael Dimino, professor at Widener Commonwealth School of Law. The event will take place at 11 a.m. in room 214 of the Arnaud C. Marts Center, 292 S Franklin St, Wilkes-Barre. The event is free and open to the public.

Meinke's research focuses on American political institutions, with an emphasis on the United States Congress. He has published work on both the modern and historical Congress addressing representation, institutional change, and electoral responsiveness. He has explored related ideas in collaborative research on both the Supreme Court and election processes. Meinke received his Ph.D. from The Ohio State University.

Dimino is an expert on election law. He is the author of a casebook on the subject, and has written widely on the election of judges. He also teaches and writes about constitutional law, legislation, constitutional criminal procedure, administrative law, federal courts, and Supreme Court politics. After graduating cum laude in 2001 from Harvard Law School, where he was Articles Editor of the Harvard Journal of Law and Public Policy, Dimino served as chief clerk to associate judge Albert M. Rosenblatt of the New York State Court of Appeals, and then clerked for senior judge Laurence H. Silberman of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit and judge Paul L. Friedman of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia.

The event was made possible by a chapter activity grant received from the Pi Sigma Alpha executive council for on campus programming.
