Wilkes University Theatre Presents A Chorus Line, April 12-15

Wilkes-Barre, PA (03/20/2018) — For this media release, contact, Gabrielle D'Amico, gabrielle.damico@wilkes.edu, 570-408-4510.

Wilkes University Theatre presents the Pulitzer Prize- and Tony Award-winning musical A Chorus Line. The performances will take place on April 12, 13 and 14 at 8 p.m. with matinee performances on April 14 and 15 at 2 p.m. The production is at Wilkes' Dorothy Dickson Darte Center for the Performing Arts, 239 S. River St., Wilkes-Barre.

This musical by Marvin Hamlisch, James Kirkwood, Jr. and Edward Kleban captures all the spirit and ambitious tension of dancers auditioning for the chorus line of a Broadway show. A Chorus Line follows these stories of Broadway gypsies as they bare their souls and put their lives "on the line." The musical focuses not just on the glamour of Broadway but on the heartbreak of being on stage.

Set on a bare stage, the show offers a glimpse into the stories of the individual dancers. After the first round of auditions, Zach, the director, asks each dancer to speak about him or herself. Through these individual stories - told in monologue, dance and song - the characters emerge as individuals from the anonymity of the chorus line.

The production is directed by Wilkes University Theatre's Joseph C. Dawson, associate dean and professor of theatre. Musical direction is provided by Ken McGraw, music theater director, with choreography by faculty of practice Lynne Mariani. The student cast includes: Paul Doherty as Zach, Melissa Berardelli as Cassie, Gianna Chase as Sheila, Michaela Oliverio as Diana, Justin Gaskill as Al, Marcy Ledvinka as Judy and Michaela Catapano as Maggie.

Other cast members include: Sarah Hoffman, Maddison Black, Gabby Lajara, Jessica Gardner, Brianna Schunk, Brianna Rowland, Kris Tjornhom, Josh Shepard, James Cahill, Kevin Rizzo, Shaun Pierre, Alex Booth, Michael Rogers, Sarah Weynand, Katelyn Sincavage and Michaela Spaid.

General admission is $10, $5 for students and seniors and free for all Wilkes students, faculty and staff with ID. Parking is available at the Henry Student Center along with handicapped accessible options. For more information, please call the box office at 570-408-4540.
