Wilkes University To Award More Than 300 Degrees At Winter Commencement Ceremony on January 21

Lisa Kadlec, Winner of Carpenter Award For Teaching, To Address Graduates

Wilkes-Barre, PA (01/18/2018) — Wilkes University will award 369 bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees when it holds its winter commencement ceremony on Sunday, January 21. The event will be at 1 p.m. in the Henry Gymnasium of the Arnaud C. Marts Sports and Conference Center, 274 South Franklin St. in Wilkes-Barre.

Wilkes President Patrick F. Leahy will welcome graduates and present their diplomas. The commencement speaker will be Lisa Kadlec, associate professor of biology. Kadlec was the recipient of the 2017 Carpenter Award for Teaching. The award, considered Wilkes' highest honor for teaching, recognizes an outstanding member of the faculty. The awardee is nominated by his or her full-time colleagues.

Kadlec is a developmental biologist who is trained in cell and molecular biology and genetics. She teaches courses in genetics, developmental biology, and cell and molecular biology. Kadlec also works with students over the summer and throughout the academic year to maintain an active research program. She held a post-doctoral research fellowship from Princeton University and earned a doctorate from Duke University and a bachelor's degree from Haverford College.

A reception for graduates and their families will be held following the ceremony in the Henry Student Center, 84 W. South St.
