Wilkes University To Award More than 400 Degrees at Summer Commencement Ceremony on Sept. 8

Wilkes-Barre, PA (09/03/2019) — Wilkes University will hold its summer commencement ceremony on Sept. 8 at 1 p.m. in the Henry Gymnasium of the Arnaud C. Marts Sports and Conference Center. More than 400 graduates will receive bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees at the event.

Helen Davis, associate professor of English at Wilkes University, will deliver the commencement address. Davis was awarded the Carpenter Award for Teaching. The award, considered Wilkes' highest honor for teaching, recognizes an outstanding member of the faculty.

Davis's work has frequently earned her honors at the University including the Faculty Advisor Award for the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences in 2018. Earlier Davis was recognized with the inaugural President's Award for Diversity in 2016. She also was awarded the Multicultural Teaching Award for the 2011-2012 academic year, which "celebrates outstanding, creative guidance of students in support of multicultural education." She received the "Diversity Leader Faculty Award" from the Wilkes Center for Global Education and Diversity in 2011.

Tom Saglimbeni will deliver the student address. Saglimbeni will receive the doctor of nursing practice degree at commencement. He is board-certified as a family nurse practitioner and has his own practice as a nurse practitioner in New York City.
