Wilkes University students are participating in internships for the fall 2019 semester.

Wilkes University students will complete internships as part of their academic work in the winter semester 2019. Internships complement academic work, provide students with practical experience in their field of study and prepare them to enter careers. Career Services at Wilkes University provides opportunities for students to clarify their career goals via individual coaching, consultations, interest assessments and life-career planning courses. The Center for Career Development and Internships is newly located behind the Henry Student Center.

Five Wilkes University students who serve as Kirby Scholars will be recognized at Wilkes University's Allan P. Kirby Center for Free Enterprise and Entrepreneurship third annual mentor breakfast. The center offers a mentoring program for new businesses and maintains a network of advisors who offer their services on a limited pro-bono basis. In conjunction with the academic resources of Wilkes University, these business and industry leaders offer years of experience and mentorship to students and prospective start-up businesses.

Wilkes University junior Ellen Weber of Gettysburg, Pa., will intern with the solar radiation and photobiology lab at the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center in Annapolis, Md., this summer. The earth and environmental science major will make a wetlands model to predict the response of wetlands biogeochemical cycling to climate change. Recently, Weber was awarded funds for her proposal to the Northeastern Geological Society of America Stephen A. Pollock undergraduate research grant. Weber's research focuses on paleoclimates.
