Nicholas Antolick, a junior political science major at Wilkes University from Nicholson, Pa., was awarded a 2022 Norton Writer's Prize for his essay, "Learn to Be Nice: How Aristotle Offers a Solution to Rape Culture." Antolick crafted the essay during his fall 2021 English composition class with Mischelle Anthony, associate professor of English. Antolick credits her for suggesting revisions to the piece and encouraging him to enter the national competiton. "I am honored to receive the Norton Writer's Prize," says Antolick. "I wish to thank Dr. Mischelle Anthony, whose enthusiastic support and guidance have allowed me to exceed my expectations as a writer." Anthony noticed Antolick's outlook and dedication in the first-year class. "I'm so proud of this particular student because of his already-mature perspective on conflict and community. The topic of his winning essay is evidence of Nick's remarkable approach to others. As a first-year student in an English composition course - and a non-humanities major at that! - Nick spoke, listened and wrote thoughtfully all through the class." The Norton Writer's Prize, sponsored by publisher W.W. Norton, recognizes outstanding nonfiction work by students enrolled at two- or four-year colleges. Awarded to three students each year, the national honor includes $1,000 and publication on the Norton website. Regarding Antolick's work, the contest judges note, "The essay offers a viable solution for addressing the problem of rape culture through the teaching of Aristotle's social virtues. This essay skillfully connects philosophical ideas to the reality of our everyday lives."

More than 60 Wilkes University students were recognized for their achievements during the 2022 Academic Awards Ceremony. The event was held on May 20, the evening before spring commencement.

Wilkes University presented its annual academic awards to graduating seniors. Awards are presented to outstanding students for achievements in the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, College of Science and Engineering, the Jay S. Sidhu School of Business and Leadership, the School of Education, the Nesbitt School of Pharmacy and the Passan School of Nursing. Awardees were recognized during the 2021 commencement exercises held on campus from May 28 to 30.

Twenty students receiving the doctor of pharmacy degree from Wilkes University's Nesbitt School of Pharmacy in May 2020 were accepted into post-graduate residency and fellowship programs. Wilkes University's Nesbitt School of Pharmacy continues to match student pharmacists seeking post-graduate residency training at a rate above the national average - with a match rate 11 percentage points higher than the national average in 2020. Seventy-four percent of students from Wilkes University's Nesbitt School of Pharmacy were successfully matched into residency training programs this year.

Romeo Rosario of Allentown, Pa., 18102, received the Teresa Jordan and Frank Mehm Prize at Wilkes University's 72nd Annual Spring Commencement on May 18. The prize is awarded annually to the undergraduate who most nearly represents the ideal respecting moral courage, unselfishness, and noteworthy extracurricular participation significantly advancing the University on and off campus. Rosario earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology. Rosario has served as head drum major for the Wilkes University Marching Colonels. He also served as an e-mentor at orientation for first-year students and was a resident assistant. Rosario was the president of BACCHUS, a campus organization focused on student health and wellness. Last fall, he was selected as homecoming king. He received the Music Award from the Division of Performing Arts. Following graduation, he will be attending graduate school in the field of counseling. Rosario is the son of Anita Rosario.

Wilkes University seniors Lauren Bezek of Kingston, Pa., and Cole Walters of Mifflintown, Pa., received the Mabel Scott Wandell and the Sterling Leroy Wandell award at at the University's 72nd Annual Spring Commencement on May 18. This award is presented to the man and woman in Wilkes University's graduating class with the highest grade-point average.

Kya Lewis of Secane, Pa., 19018 received the Alumni Leadership Award at Wilkes University's 72nd Annual Spring Commencement on May 18. This award is given by the Wilkes University Alumni Association to the member of the graduating class considered to have made the strongest contribution to student life and the student activities program of the University. Lewis earned a Bachelor of Business Administration, magna cum laude degree in management. Lewis is a two-term president of programming board, the student activities organization on campus. She was also the hip-hop director for the student-run radio station, WCLH. She served as a resident assistant and as orientation coordinator. Last fall, Lewis was selected as homecoming queen. After graduation, she will pursue her MBA at Wilkes and serve as a graduate assistant in the Admissions office. Lewis is the daughter of Sharon Lewis-Gregg and Wesley Gregg.

Sidhu School of Business and Leadership were awarded the Student Showcase Award at the Accreditation Council for Business Schools & Programs (ACBSP) Conference. Grace Boyle of Andreas, Pa., and Patrice Lonardi of Harrisburg, Pa., presented their research, Excellence in Undergraduate Business Programs through Promotion. It highlights trends in digital promotion of undergraduate business programs. The presentation was selected from among all regional student presentations. The conference was held June 8-11, in Kansas City, Mo.

Sidhu School of Business and Leadership were selected to present their research at the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs Conference 2018 from June 8-11, in Kansas City, Mo. Their presentation was selected from among all regional student presentations in the council.

Jacee Yorks of Nescopeck, Pa. received a Fund for Education Abroad Scholarship to support her study abroad program with CAPA The Global Education Network in Sydney, Australia in summer 2018. She was one of 268 scholars who were selected from a pool of over 2,300 applicants representing approximately 517 colleges and universities across the country - an award rate of about four percent. Fund for Education Abroad Scholarships are designed for students seeking a rigorous overseas academic program. Yorks is a business management major and will take management classes for course credits through CAPA The Global Education Network. She will also complete an events management internship at a local business in Sydney. As part of the scholarship, she is required to blog about her different adventures and learning experiences while abroad. Yorks was also a 2017 recipient of the Dr. Joseph Donald Stephens, DDS Global Scholars Award. The Dr. Joseph Donald Stephens, DDS Global Scholars Award provides students with scholarships to pursue their education in another country. The award was established by Wilkes University alumni Panos Kalaritis '77 and Deborah (Stephens) Kalaritis '78 in honor of her father, Joseph D. Stephens DDS, a 1951 graduate of Wilkes University.

The Passan School of Nursing at Wilkes University hosts the Professional Induction Ceremony as a way to recognize incoming nursing students who have demonstrated basic competency in safety, communication, and basic skills in the nursing simulation center. During the ceremony, students receive their Passan School of Nursing white lab coat for clinical training and sign The Nursing Code of Ethics.

Four Wilkes University students presented their research at the regional Phi Alpha Theta conference at West Chester University on April 9. Phi Alpha Theta is a national history honor society.
