Wilkes University Students Participate in Statewide America250PA Direct Effect Innovation Challenge, Advance to Finals

The Wilkes University student team tied for first place in a competition challenging students to come up with a campaign promoting the 250th anniversary of American independence in Pennsylvania. Eight institutions from the northeast region competed in the marketing event America250PA Direct Effect Innovation Challenge on Oct. 26. Now, the Wilkes team is headed to statewide finals on Nov. 19 to compete against other regional winners.

Wilkes University Students Place Third In National CQA Investment Challenge

Students in Wilkes University's Sidhu School of Business and Leadership placed third in the fifth annual Chicago Quantitative Alliance (CQA) Investment Challenge. The Wilkes team, called Wilkes Gold, competed against 50 teams, beating students from The University of Chicago, CalTech, Carnegie Mellon MBA, Duke University, Cornell University, University of Michigan, Washington University and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. The Wilkes team received $1,000 for their third-place finish.

Wilkes University Nesbitt School of Pharmacy Awarded the Student Public Relations and Awareness Award at Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association Annual Conference

Wilkes University's Nesbitt School of Pharmacy was awarded the Student Public Relations and Awareness Award at the Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association Annual Conference on Sept. 23. The conference was held at Kalahari Resorts and Conventions, Pocono Manor. The student group received a commemorative plaque and a $200 cash prize for their organization.

Three Wilkes University student pharmacists won the Achieving Independence Competition at the Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association Annual Conference on Sept. 23. The conference was held at Kalahari Resorts and Conventions, Pocono Manor.

Wilkes University Students Enter "Achieving Independence" Competition at Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association Annual Meeting

A team of four Wilkes University students from the Nesbitt School of Pharmacy participated in the Achieving Independence Competition at the Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association Annual Meeting. The competition challenges student teams to create a fiscally viable business plan for opening a new pharmacy in Pennsylvania or purchasing an existing pharmacy and implementing new concepts. The students presented their poster to a live panel of judges. Kim Ference, assistant professor of pharmacy practice, was faculty advisor for the project.

Wilkes University Nursing Team Places Second in NCLEX Challenge

A team of six senior nursing students from Wilkes University placed second in the Geoffrey Allen Walp Memorial 11th Annual Student Nursing Challenge at East Stroudsburg University. The challenge assists student nurses in their preparation for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN), which licenses individuals to practice nursing. Joyce Victor Chmil, assistant professor and director of nursing at Wilkes, coached the student team.

Wilkes University Pharmacy Team Places Fourth in American Society of Health-System Pharmacists Clinical Skills Competition

Bethany Sharpless and Lindsey Coval represented the Wilkes University Nesbitt School of Pharmacy in the 19th annual American Society of Health-System Pharmacists Clinical Skills Competition, held during the society's Midyear Clinical Meeting in Anaheim, Calif. The team placed fourth in the competition, in which a record 127 teams from pharmacy schools across the country competed.

Wilkes University Pharmacy Student Alysha Lopez of DuBois, Pa., Wins "Know Pain, Know Gain" Competition at Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association's Mid-Year Conference

Alysha Lopez of DuBois, Pa., won the 2015 "Know Pain, Know Gain" competition held on February 21 at the Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association's Mid-Year Conference in Harrisburg. Lopez, a fourth-year pharmacy student at Wilkes University, competed against 11 other pharmacy students from colleges and universities across the state.

Wilkes University Enactus Team Wins National Recognitions

The Wilkes University Enactus team placed in the top five out of 100 schools across the United States participating in the Sam's Club Step Up for Small Business Project Partnership competition. The team also placed second runner-up in its league at the Enactus national competition. Team members for the 2013/2014 academic year include Dominic Manzione, Mark Vancosky, Josh Rodriguez, Jeremy Wiest, Eddie Powell, Jacqueline Escobar, Kristie Spinello, Tory Price and Jess Batchler.

Wilkes University Pharmacy Student Colleen Herman of Lancaster, Pa., Wins Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association Competition

Colleen Herman of Lancaster, Pa., won the Know Pain Know Gain Pharmacy Patient Counseling Competition administered by the Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association. The student competition was conducted at the association's annual Mid-Year Conference, held Jan. 24-26, 2014, in Bedford, Pa. Sponsored by the National Alliance of State Pharmacy Associations and Purdue Pharma, L.P., the competition consisted of a rapid fire question elimination round and a patient counseling round.
