Members of the Wilkes University Civic Band played in the 72nd Annual Pennsylvania Intercollegiate Band

Six student members of the Wilkes Civic Band played with the 72nd Annual Pennsylvania Intercollegiate Band. The students were chosen to play with the Pennsylvania Intercollegiate Band with other student musicians from 27 other schools across the state. They performed under the baton of Major Michelle Rakers, former assistant conductor of the U.S. Marine Band.

Wilkes University Students Selected to Perform with Pennsylvania Intercollegiate Band Festival

Three Wilkes University students were selected to participate in the Pennsylvania Intercollegiate Band Festival at Mansfield University on Feb. 23-25. The Wilkes students were recommended by Philip Simon, associate professor of music and director of the bands and chosen from a group of more than 200 student applicants throughout the state. A total of 115 musicians will form the Pennsylvania Intercollegiate Band, the oldest continuously performing state intercollegiate ensemble in the nation.

The Wilkes University Marching Band performed in the Tournament of Bands Atlantic Coast Championships on Nov. 5, 2016. The exhibition took place at the West Shore Stadium in Harrisburg where the Wilkes University Marching Band performed for 26 college bands.

Five students from Wilkes University participated in the Pennsylvania Intercollegiate Band Festival hosted at Elizabethtown College during the weekend of March 4-6. Select students from 21 other colleges and universities throughout the state of Pennsylvania participated in the festival. The guest conductor for the event was Michael Golemo, noted composer and director of bands at Iowa State University.

Wilkes University Theatre will present Shout! The Mod Musical, a musical by Philip George and David Lowenstein, Nov. 13-22. Performances are being held nightly at 8 p.m. in the Dorothy Dickson Darte Center, with Sunday matinee performances at 2 p.m. Directed by Wilkes' director of theatre Teresa Fallon with musical direction by Ken McGraw, this pop musical romp through 1960s London highlights changing gender roles through such favorites as, "Downtown," "These Boots Are Made For Walking," and "To Sir, With Love."
