A group of Wilkes University students participated in an alternative spring break trip to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Student pharmacists Ashley Robold and Terra Landis of the Nesbitt School of Pharmacy at Wilkes University were finalists in the Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association's (PPA) 2017 "Know Pain Know Gain" Pharmacy Patient Counseling Competition, which took place during PPA's mid-year conference on Jan. 28 in Lancaster, Pa. Founded in 1878, the Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association is a professional membership organization of more than 2,300 pharmacists and pharmacy students across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Wilkes University Theatre presented the musical You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown, with music and lyrics by Clark Gesner, based on the Charles Schulz comic strip. Performances were Feb. 17-26 at the Dorothy Dickson Darte Center for the Performing Arts.

The Passan School of Nursing at Wilkes University hosts the Professional Induction Ceremony as a way to recognize incoming nursing students who have demonstrated basic competency in safety, communication, and basic skills in the nursing simulation center. During the ceremony, students receive their Passan School of Nursing white lab coat for clinical training and sign The Nursing Code of Ethics.

The Wilkes University Marching Band performed in the Tournament of Bands Atlantic Coast Championships on Nov. 5, 2016. The exhibition took place at the West Shore Stadium in Harrisburg where the Wilkes University Marching Band performed for 26 college bands.

Ten Wilkes University students have been selected to be Kirby Scholars by the Allan P. Kirby Center for Free Enterprise and Entrepreneurship. The Kirby Scholars are top-performers in accounting, marketing, legal, product development, and project management. The Scholars provide services to the businesses at the center's business incubator, and receive valuable experience in their field of study and formal recognition of their work.

Four Wilkes University Honor Society students recently had an opportunity to visit Hanoi, Vietnam, to learn about making positive transformations in small communities. The students attended the University Scholars Leadership Symposium, an international conference intended to raise global awareness of disenfranchised communities.

Anthony Fanucci of Madison Township, Pa., won the Alumni Leadership Award at Wilkes University's 69th Annual Spring Commencement on May 21. The award is presented by the Wilkes University Alumni Association to the member of the graduating class considered to have made the strongest contribution to student life and the student activities program of the University.

Wilkes University congratulates 12 Doctor of Pharmacy alumni who will pursue a second year of residency training in more specialized fields of pharmacy practice. One hundred percent of these Wilkes pharmacy alumni were placed into a second year residency program.

Twenty-seven Wilkes University 2016 Doctor of Pharmacy graduates will pursue post-graduate training across the country, which represents more than one-third of the graduating class and the most graduates ever placed. Ninety percent of the Wilkes pharmacy students who entered the match got into a residency program, which is higher than the national average of 66 percent.

All engineering seniors are required to select and execute a theoretical or experimental design or technical project. Students are required to make an oral presentation and submit a written report on the project.
